The Speak Now Camp is for children who stutter between the ages of 5 and 17 and runs
for 1 week August 3rd through August 7, 2026, 5 days/week from 9:00 am until 4:00
pm (7 hours/day). This program includes two parent workshops, (1) day one is an information
session to help parents learn more about stuttering and provide time for them to address
concerns and ask questions; (2) Day 5 includes a morning workshop, consult with SLP
and student clinician to discuss child鈥檚 progress and plan for carryover and maintenance,
luncheon, and a program in the afternoon. Each day, the campers participate in group
therapy/support sessions followed by team building exercises and receive individual
speech-language therapy for 45 minutes to one hour in the afternoon.
Goals/Treatment Outcomes:
- Increase the child鈥檚 understanding of the nature of stuttering
Increase the child鈥檚 awareness of the factors and behaviors that may perpetuate stuttering - To reduce the impact of stuttering on the child
- To reduce the impact of stuttering on the parents and family
- To increase the child鈥檚 confidence and overall communication skills
The underlying principles of the Speak Now Camp:
- Change needs to occur at a family systems level if the child is going to be able to
make and sustain changes in communication and thinking;
- Families have the skills and abilities to make changes that support improved communication
in the child;
- Children do not have to be fluent in order to be successful communicators;
- Therapy must address not only the development of communication strategies, but also reduce the impact of stuttering on the child and family.
The aim of the camp is to help the child develop social communication skills, manage cognitive-emotional aspects of the stuttering; and make choices about whether/when/how to use learned communication strategies.

黑料正能量 is excited to offer an incredible Connections camp experience
for neurodivergent learners ages (7-15) and camp counselors (young adults). Speech
Language Pathology graduate students and Psychology students will lead daily small
group workshops where campers and counselors will dive into hands-on experiential
social-emotional learning activities that foster receptive and expressive language
growth, communication, and real-life lasting bonds and friendships. This work promotes
emotional identification, self-regulation, self-advocacy, abstract language competency,
fosters relationship skills, and brings awareness to responsible decision making.
Each day campers will be introduced to a new competency and will learn how it impacts
their daily lives and can influence their challenges and successes.
